About the Region

“Alpacas Vic West” is our short-hand version of our regional title - the Victorian Western Region of the Australian Alpaca Association Ltd.

The region encompasses some of the finest wool-producing country in Australia. It extends from Melbourne to the South Australian border, and it’s northern boundary runs up through Ballarat & Horsham.

It supported some of the earliest alpaca herds in Australia (in their most recent incarnation in this country) and now has a reputation for producing outstanding alpacas and alpaca fleece as well.

The region’s breeders have won the particularly important award of “Most Commercially Valuable Fleece” in recent years - our members know a thing or two about alpacas and alpaca wool.

Local breeders appreciate and value the alpaca's rich range of natural colours. With about 5 per cent of the national alpaca herd, Victorian Western Region offers a wide choice within a relatively compact area.

You can see our alpacas “in person” at many of our shows and events or come along to one of our regional meetings or activities.
At our regional meetings we generally have an alpaca-related speaker or discussion.  Meetings are held at member’s studs, where anyone interested in alpacas is welcome.
